Greetings, we are visited by SMOK XCube II 160w TC boxmod. Today I will tell you about the device, which is interesting to a lot of people, is packed with so much stuff that it takes weeks to understand all its intricacies and has such “features” that no one else has.
In fact, this review should have been published much earlier, because the device came into my hands quite a long time ago, but it took me even longer to thoroughly study it than I had originally planned. On the other hand, what’s the point of a review if it is not based on full-fledged testing, don’t you agree? So, today we are talking about SMOK’s much acclaimed flagship boxmod called SMOK X Cube II.
The latest improved boxmod Smok X Cube 2 has an expensive and stylish design. The product is easy to hold in your hand, all the edges are nicely rounded. The display is on the top of the device, next to the connector and the control buttons. The back of the boxmod is equipped with a compartment for batteries (not included), closed with a magnetic cover. e-cigarettes online boutique in canada The slit on the body is complemented by LED backlighting, the color of which you can choose yourself with your smartphone. A very important addition to the device is bluetooth 4.0 support, so you can use a special application to configure the device. Also in the application collected the most detailed information about all your puffs.
Equipment:
SMOK X Cube II 160W , box mod – 1 pc. Case – 1pc. USB cable – 1pc.
Appearance:
The design of the device is quite strict, I would even call it minimalistic, but this is the right minimalism, this is how a premium device should look like. Nothing superfluous, everything is strict and in its place, and I personally liked the design very much. X Cube II does not copy any other device, is individual and beautiful.
On the front side of the device we see only two laser engravings – with the logo of the device itself and its main “chips”: Bluetooth 4.0, 160W power and TC.
On the opposite side only one engraving – with SMOK logo. Also there is a battery compartment cover. The whole side panel is one big voltage button. At first this decision seemed to me a little ambiguous, but in use you quickly get used to it and realize that this is actually very convenient. By the way, accidental pressings are minimized, if you don’t grab the device from the table with all your might, there won’t be any.
By the way the case is not just made of steel (or rather it is made of some kind of alloy, which includes zinc), but it is also covered with lacquer. Thus its entire surface is very smooth to the touch and has a mirror shine.
Also in the gap between the body and the button there is a trademark “chip” X Cube II in the form of a LED strip.
You can change its color to your liking and choose any shade of the 16 million color combinations of the three primary colors of the RGB standard (red, green, blue).
If you look at the device from above, the first thing that catches your eye is the display. In fact, I think the idea to put it exactly on the top surface is just great. There is no need to turn the mod every time to see the power setting or the battery level – all this you can easily observe right in the process of smoking. The screen is easy to read and has a high resolution and nice graphics. If you want you can change its contrast in the settings, or flip the image on it.
Just above the display there are buttons for adjusting power output and navigating through the menu. By the way the control logic here is built pretty cool – you can either control the device with one button (voltage supply) or flip through the menu with these two buttons.
Under the screen, respectively, is located connector.
At the bottom end of the device there are holes for venting in case of failure of the battery and microUSB connector.
Again, this connector is not designed to charge the device, its only function is to update the software.
Connector:
The device uses a high-quality, steel 510 connector with a spring-loaded center contact and a gold-plated center contact. Around the connector there is a slot for atomizers with air intake through the connector. You can find almost none of them nowadays but it never hurts to be universally available. In addition, this groove has another function – it prevents the atomizer from “sticking” to the device when liquid gets in the space between the device’s connector and the bottom part of the atomizer.
The device is powered by a pair of 18650 batteries. The device will not work with a single battery, as some devices designed for 2 batteries can do. The battery compartment in the X Cube II is as high-quality as everything else in this mod. Pay attention to the design of the contacts:
There is an extra contact pad on the end of the spring that provides more contact area, you can also see a fairly thick wire inside the contact. All contacts are gold plated. The battery cover is held in place by magnets. There were some rumors on the internet that the cover is not too tight but in my case I wouldn’t say that, yes the cover is not too tight and maybe it would be worth adding a couple more magnets to make it even tighter but I personally have never had the cover come off or even try to. The only way to make it fall off is to intentionally shake the mod hard enough, which no one in their right mind would do, of course.
The magnets are fixed quite well, also on the lid there are additional protrusions that go into the grooves on the device. The device, according to the instructions, requires high-current batteries. In our case these are Efest IMR batteries, designed for continuous discharge current up to 35A and have a capacity of 2800 mAh.
In the device the batteries showed themselves well enough, the operating time was about 1.5-2 days in “steam train” mode.
Conclusions:
The device is actually very cool. When I saw the announcement and the first photos of the device – my feelings were mixed: the main doubts were about the ergonomics and electronics, but after holding the device in my hands I quickly got used to it, and what is important – I did not see any significant drawbacks. Well, the case scratches a little, but it cannot be called a disadvantage – more of a nag. Otherwise, the device made a very pleasant impression. Its main function – to provide tasty steam in large quantities, it performs 100%. Also this device perfectly copes with complex windings which require high power, such as clapton-coil dualcoil, I will tell you about it in details in the second part of the review, so stay tuned.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, the maximum power of the X Cube II is already 180W.
